1. Introduction

International and South African students interested in pursuing career studies in South Africa may be running out of time. Most, if not all, South African universities began accepting applications in March 2022. Although many university application processes are already underway and nearing completion, some universities are still accepting applications for the 2023/24 academic year. Before attending to regularly inquired information, we will list some of the universities open for 2023/24 applications, application fees, and that specific university application process in this short article.

2. SA Universities opened for the 2023/24 academic year

The majority of these universities' application processes are still ongoing. South Africa has a large number of public universities, and this list will focus primarily on these public universities. It should be noted that "each of South Africa's nine provinces hosts at least one of the country's 26 public universities, allowing both local and international students to study outside their domain location and explore the country's diverse society."

The following is a list of 21 of South Africa's 26 public universities that are currently accepting applications for the 2023/24 academic year.

The University's study application intake is open and will close on 30 August 2022.

The universities mainly offered courses related to Technology, but the university still accepts applications from both International and local students at an R100 ($) charge.

Central University of Technology (CUT): -

The CUT is located in Bloemfontein in the Free State province, mainly focused on Technology studies the university has a variety of departments on its main campus. 2023/24 study applications to CUT are opened and will close on 30 September 2022. Application is FREE while registration fees are R000 ($00).

3. Durban Institute of Technology (DUT): -

This institution is local in KZN and has more than four campuses in two metropolitan cities in the province.

DUT study applications for 2023/24 are opened and will close on 28 September 2022, the 2023 application to study at DUT is submitted through the KZN Central Application Office (CAO form) at a cost of R490 for South Africans. However, both local and international students can use the university online application at a cost of R220 ($00)

4. Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT): -

Located in South Africa’s 2nd biggest township, this technical university aims to be amongst the superior universities in information and technology. MUT 2023 study applications are already opened and will unfold on 28 September 2022, applications can be done Online at a cost of R200 ($15) or through the CAO form for R490 ($27) for South Africans and $000 for International students.

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMU): -

NMU 2023 study applications opened early this year and are expected to be closed on 04 August for specific courses and 30 September 2022 for others. The university is recognized as the most diverse and compatible university in South Africa, as part of their curriculum a variety of their courses include workplace experience. Application for 2023 to study at NWU has already opened on the 00/00/00 and the due date is expected to be 30 August 2022.

7. Sol Plaatje University (SPU): -

The 2023 applications to study at SPU are open and will be closed on 30 November 2023. Prospective students can use the university online application system FREE of charge, the university has courses both suited for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

8. University of Fort Hare (UFH): -

The University of Fort Hare is in the Eastern Cape and is an equitable and sustainable African university, the University Aluminite includes some of the much-celebrated African leaders.

The university 2023 applications are open and will close on 31 October 2022, study applications are done online for R200 ($12).

The University of Free State is on a path to transform lives and inspire excellence through teaching and research. The university 2023 applications are opened and will be closed by the end of 30 September 2022, UFS online applications are FREE for both local and international students.

10. University of Johannesburg (UJ): -

The University of Johannesburg 2023 application opened on the 1st of April 2022 and will close on the 30th of September 2022. All UJ study online applications are FREE for both South African and International students while formal application forms cost R200 ($12).

11. University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN): -

With campuses in both Durban and Pietermaritzburg, UKZN inspires to be a value-driven institutional culture of public higher learning by empowering its students and communities. UKZN 2023 study applications have commenced and will close on 30 September 2022, first time South African undergraduate applicants are advised to use the CAO form R490 ($27) and all other applicants use the UKZN online application system at a cost of R210 ($12).

12. University of Limpopo (UL): -

The online applications system to study at the University of Limpopo opened on and is expected to close before 30 September 2022. For the academic year of 2023/24 UL accept online applications only at a cost of R200 ($12) non-refundable.

13. University of Mpumalanga (UMP): -

The University of Mpumalanga is amongst the two newest universities in South Africa, UMP is recognized as one of the vital elements of social, cultural, and economic aspects in the field of teaching and researching.

UMP 2023 online applications opened on 1st of June 2022 and will be due to close by 30 November 2022, Masters and Doctorate qualification will end on 15 January 2023 the university accept online applications at a cost of R150 ($10) for RSA/SADC students, R350 ($19) for other African students and R500 ($28) for students outside of Africa.

14. University of Pretoria (UP): -

UP is one of Africa's most prestigious universities and the largest contact university in South Africa with over 60,000 enrolled students. UP study application intake commenced on 1 April 2022 and closed on 30 June 2022 for Law and Engineering studies while other faculties will stop accepting applications on the 30th of September 2022. Application fees to study at UP cost R300 ($17) for South Africans and international students, but are free for RSA/SADC students with a proven disadvantaged background.

15. University of South Africa (UNISA): -

UNISA is the biggest distanced online learning in the African continent and in South Africa, the university has campuses all over the country and thus offers short-learning courses, degrees, master, and doctoral qualifications. UNISA 2023 study application will commence on the 1st of September 2022 and will close on 14 October 2022 for Short-learning courses and all degree, Master and Doctoral qualifications will have until 11 November 2023. All UNISA study applications are conducted online for a fee of R120 ($7) for all students.

The University of Venda celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2022, the university was founded in 1982. UNIVEN 2023 study application intake has fully opened and is due to close by 30 November 2022, all prospective students should expect to pay an amount of R100 ($6) for their study application.

17. University of the Western Cape: -

The University of the Western Cape famously known as UWC, this institution is based in Cape Town and has excellent teaching and learning system. The University of Witwatersrand is celebrating its 100th year of existence in 2022, Wits offers a variety of courses from part-time, online, postgraduate, and undergraduate degrees.

The University of Zululand is located on the north coast of KwaZulu­-Natal (Zululand) and has two campuses namely Richards Bay Campus and Kwadlangezwa Campus. 21. Walter Sisulu University (WSU): -
